About the Artist:
Clarice Cliff is, today, regarded as one of the most influential ceramic artists of the 20th century.
Her work is collected, valued, and admired the world over. She was born on January 20th, 1899, in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, and started work at the age of 13 in ‘The Potteries.’ Clarice moved to AJ Wilkinson’s pottery factory in 1916. She was ambitious, and her skills were recognized so that eventually she was given her own studio. It was here that she started creating her own patterns, and the famous ‘Bizarre’ wares were launched in 1927.
