About the Artist:
Casey van der Leek is a South African painter whose work focuses on landscape, atmosphere, and the changing character of light across the Western Cape. Working primarily in oils, he is known for expressive scenes that move between observation and memory, often capturing storm fronts, open terrain, coastal weather, and quiet rural spaces with a strong sense of mood.
Although largely self-taught as an artist, van der Leek comes from a family with a long connection to painting and is the great-grandson of South African artist Tinus de Jongh. Alongside his artistic practice, he completed studies in engineering before dedicating himself more fully to painting.
His approach combines structured composition with loose, energetic brushwork, allowing texture and movement to play an important role in the final image. Rather than aiming for photographic precision, his paintings focus on atmosphere, shifting weather, and the emotional quality of place.
Van der Leek’s work has been exhibited through galleries and art platforms in South Africa and is held in private collections locally and internationally.
