About Ardmore:
Ardmore Ceramic Art is a South African contemporary art studio known for its vibrant, hand-crafted ceramics that blend fine art, storytelling, and cultural heritage. Founded in 1985 by Fée Halsted in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Ardmore began as a small creative initiative aimed at supporting and empowering local artists, many of whom had limited formal art training at the time.
From its origins on a farm, Ardmore grew into a collaborative studio where artists are trained in ceramic sculpture and painting, developing their own creative voices while contributing to a shared visual language. The work is deeply rooted in the traditions, folklore, and natural environment of South Africa, often drawing inspiration from Zulu storytelling, wildlife, and the surrounding landscape.
Each piece is individually hand-built and hand-painted, making every creation unique. The ceramics are known for their expressive forms, intricate detail, and rich use of color, often featuring imaginative scenes of animals and human figures intertwined in narrative compositions.
